The Autism Society of Los Angeles (ASLA) proudly serves those affected by autism spectrum disorders, across the spectrum and across the lifespan, in the Los Angeles community. We are membership organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with autism, their families, and the professionals who work with them, every day. Our local focus and mission distinguish us from other organizations that raise money locally but send it away to their corporate offices, or use donations for purposes other than helping those affected by autism every day. The Autism Society of Los Angeles brings together parents, professionals, individuals on the spectrum, collaborators, and supporters, to form a collective voice to respond to the needs of the local autism community.

The Autism Society of America was founded in 1965 by a pioneering group of parents at a time when autism was virtually unknown to the general public. The Autism Society is the oldest and largest grassroots organization within the autism community. Over the last 47 years, the Society has grown from a handful of parents into the leading source of information, research and reference on autism. Today, more than 120,000 members and supporters are connected through a working network of nearly 150 chapters nationwide.

The Los Angeles Chapter of the Autism Society was formed at the same time as the national organization. Local parents joined together to seek support from one another, share information, and find needed services for their children. The members of ASLA can still relate to the needs that inspired the formation of the organization. With the political and economic issues we face today, our mission focusing on advocacy, awareness, education, services, support and collaboration here in our own community is as relevant as ever.

ASLA has led the way for nearly 5 decades and our commitment to the Los Angeles community has not wavered. We are honored that some of the original founding leaders of ASLA continue to be involved with our efforts, joining with the parents, individuals with ASD, relatives, friends, advocates, educators and other professionals who share our vision. We continue to expand our organization to help us carry out our mission. You are part of the solution, we encourage you to become a member or expand your involvement!

ASLA is a non-profit 501c3 corporation with an all-volunteer Board of Directors. Monthly board meetings are open to the public. ASLA is part of the Autism Society of California, which focuses on advocacy and legislative issues at the state level. We also have a national presence to affect advocacy, policy and legislative issues though the Autism Society of America, and are linked to Autism Society chapters in all 50 states.
