Advocacy
The Autism Society of Los Angeles works for systems reform and policies that address the long-term success and well-being of all individuals with Autism and other disabilities throughout their lifespan.
We work to affect public policy by influencing the views of policy-makers whether in a state legislature, city council, government agency, or anywhere decisions are made that affect the Los Angeles catchment.
We work at the local, state and federal levels in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders providing expertise, leadership, and support around critical issues such as Autism assessment, Autism services, education issues, employment, housing and more.
One of our core values is “Dignity, equality, and access for people with Autism and other disabilities”. We facilitate this in our practices and programs such as the Parent Empowerment Project which was supported through a DDS grant from 2018 through 2021.
The Parent Empowerment Project
The Parent Empowerment Project (PEP) is a parent-led organization that provides parent-to-parent support. Our team will give hands-on support and guidance with:
- In-Home Support Services (IHSS),
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI),
- Special Education Related Services (IEPs),
- County Resources (Medi-Cal, Cal-Works,
- Childcare & Housing),
- Generic Resources such as transportation (i.e.: ACCESS and Metro), legal support referrals, and more.
