Thank you to the sponsors, speakers, attendees, exhibitors, and volunteers for making the ASLA 2016 Conference “It’s a New Day, It’s a New Life: Preparing for Dramatic Changes in the Developmental Disabilities System” a resounding success.
In the words of Conference Director Judy Mark, “We have received overwhelmingly positive responses from attendees including, “This conference changed my life”, “My mind is blown”, and “It was so powerful”. Individuals who attended the conference have renewed energy to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, and our entire system through self-determination, inclusion, and person-centered planning.”
Our next major ASLA event is camp… We are proud to introduce ASLA’s “Camp NAVIN” – Navigating Independence.  This is a residential camp for young adults with developmental disabilities to encourage independence and friendship building. Join us this summer! Sunday August 14 through Friday August 19, 2016 if you are 18 – 30 years of age.  (see attached flyer)

Community coming together…

This month we expanded our education efforts to the LAPD Detention Centers and will continue the partnership with our officers.
We also had an awareness day at California State University Long Beach to educate the students, thank you to Kappa Psi Epsilon!
On February 11, we partnered with UCLA to present an evening with John Donvan and Caren Zucker “in a Different Key: The Story of Autism” – The community response to this event was very positive.
